SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT

OUR COMMITMENT
We think not just in terms of the next few vintages but the next generations.
Since 1990, we have moved towards a more sustainable approach and our wines are certified organic since 2001.
We are constantly evolving our practices to ensure that, over time, we can continue to reduce vineyard energy inputs and greenhouse gas emissions. With any future developments, we are committed to keeping our winery sustainable and, wherever possible, increasing our sustainable practices.
Sorrentino is a business dedicated to the health of the planet, the wellbeing of our employees and the trust of our customers.
VINEYARD
In the vineyard, our goal is to grow the best grapes that we can while protecting and strengthening the soil. We combine organic and sustainable practices, minimising chemical intervention, conserving our vineyard and surrounding environment and promoting biodiversity.
We maintain soil health by planting cover crops to protect the balance of the soil and to decrease water evaporation. We also add organic matter and green compost which improves the structure of the soil and its fertility.
We adopt mechanical weed control techniques to avoid the use of herbicides, and to preserve the aromatic herbs that grow on the Mount Vesuvius National Park.
BIODIVERSITY
We’ve invested in a programme of ‘insetting’ over the years and today amongst the vineyards we host a huge range of beautiful healthy crops, such as olives, apricots, figs, aubergines, tomatoes and oranges to name a few.
The land is a-buzz with pollinators in the summer, which allows us to have a rich production of organic honey.
WATER
Rainwater harvesting for grey water, allows us to more sustainably manage onsite bathrooms, vineyard spraying, cleaning and washing of our machinery as well as watering our diverse plant-life across the estate.
Whilst water is a key part of winemaking, we don’t water the vines. The deep, developed roots are able to spread down into the earth and get their moisture there.
PRODUCTION
We make minimal chemical additions to our wines, utilising natural yeasts to ferment. We adopted lighter wine bottles and all packaging is made with biodegradable materials. We apply conscious energy practices, using solar energy, and energy efficient equipment in the winery.
